Time to Make (Another) Diet Change

You know the saying that life comes at you in threes? For me, it’s been three major dietary twists that have shaken things up. First, it was gluten, then sugar, and now, I’m deep into the low-histamine chapter.

About six weeks ago, my doctor handed me a low-histamine diet plan, recommended some supplements, and said, “Try this for 3-4 months. Let’s see if your symptoms improve.”

In the first few weeks, I went through a rollercoaster of emotions. I cried, got angry, and was downright scared. Thoughts like, “What can I eat? Why is my body doing this? Will I EVER feel normal?” raced through my mind. Eventually, I realized that fear is a normal part of the experience, but it doesn’t need to dominate my life.

Here is the silver lining: it’s entirely normal to experience these ups and downs when making significant lifestyle and behavior changes. While the journey may have started with uncertainty, it quickly transformed into an adventure. Embracing the unknown, trying new things, and rewriting my culinary story has been surprisingly liberating. With every step forward, I’ve come to appreciate that change, though challenging at times, can be profoundly rewarding.  

Embracing The Adventure

Throughout this new adventure, I’ve been using my health coaching tools. Visualizing my health, setting small and achievable goals, and taking baby steps have been critical as we navigate this uncharted territory.

And having a support system is key during times like these. I’m grateful my partner, Oliver, is embarking on this health journey with me. With Oliver by my side, having a circle of supportive friends, and meeting consistently with my coach, this path became less of a struggle and more of a thrilling expedition.

Let’s be real; making a change can feel challenging. Especially when it’s tied to a diagnosis and when you know that embracing it is the only way forward. I have learned that you can resist it, keep suffering, and remain stuck, or you can suit up, face it head-on, and embrace it as the incredible adventure it’s meant to be.
